16 Students Awarded Top Notch Scholarship Program

Bandar Seri Begawan - Sixteen students have been awarded under the most prestigious scheme annually offered by the Ministry of Defence, namely the Supreme Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Scholarship and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Scholarship.

Of the 16 students, 11 were awarded the Supreme Commander of the RBAF Scholarship.
Two of the II awardees are 0′ Level students Daeena Faeeza Hj Mahadi and Lim Shinling from MSPSBS.

Awardees from the A’ Level group are Lim Wang Yng of MSPSBS (Medical), Siti Nur’raheemah PDM Hj Musa (Medical/ BAKALArmy Officer), Mohd Hamiz Hj Jamil (Dental/BAKALArmy Officer), Koh Cin Yee (Economics) and Muhd Haziq Hj Mohd Jamil (Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics! BAKAL Army), all of whom are students of MSPSBS.

Recipients from MDPMM are Siti Nor Asmah Hj Md HaiderAli (Medical), Hazel Ho MingYeh (Law) and Vincent Yap Kah Jiun (Mechanical Engineering), while SM Sayyidina Ali student Ak Muhd Abd Aziz Pg Ali Hassan (Economics, Politics and International Studies) is also one of the awardees.

Meanwhile, recipients of the RBAF Scholarship are Azura Hidup of SM Sayyidina Ali (Law), Fadhilah Hj Yahya of MSPSBS (Law), Muhd Muneer Hj Muhd Taib of MSPSBS (Law), Nur Azimah Said of MDPMM (Politics with International Studies) and Muhd Izdihar Imran ofMSPSBS (Aeronautical Engineering).

The Supreme Commander of the RBAF Scholarship was first introduced in 2005, and is awarded to the most outstanding 0′ and A’ Levels students.

Recipients will eventually pursue careers either as civilian or military officers in MINDEF or RBAF.

To be eligible, each student must be a citizen of Brunei Darussalam, and must possess strong leadership qualities and have solid co-curricular activities.

They must also attain at least eight Grade As for those in the O’ Level or at least three Grade As for those in the A’ Levels.

The RBAF Scholarship - which is the second most prestigious scheme - made its debut in 2006, where it is awarded to top A’ Level students who will eventually pursue careers as military officers at RBAF.

To be eligible for this scheme, students must be Brunei citizens. attain at least one Grade A and two Grade Bs in their A’ Level, possess strong leadership qualities, have solid co-curricular activities, record and pass the Armed Forces Commissioning Board.

Out of the 41 students who were eligible and had been invited to compete this year, two 0′ Level and nine A’ Level students have been awarded the Supreme Commander of the RBAF Scholarship.

The RBAF Scholarship, meanwhile, has been awarded to five A’ Level students - out of a total of 37 eligible students.

The scholars will return to answer the calling of defence once they have graduated and will grapple with a wide range of issues that impact on the nation’s security needs.

Through a series of appointments, they will not only be tested as leaders but also as managers, planners and strategists.

They, as a MINDEF scholar, will look forward to a challenging and rewarding career that tests and stretches their limits and will also gain experience and confidence that will stand them in good stead in whatever challenges they take on beyond MINDEF and RBAF. — Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
