College offers chance to study in London or Paris

Lake Tahoe Community College will be offering two quarter-length study abroad programs in the next year - London in the fall and Paris in the spring. Both programs are eight weeks long and costs range from $4,215 to $5,800 respectively (not including airfare).

Students will study in London from Oct. 6 through Dec. 2, living with British host families and studying art, English, international business and speech. The program price includes breakfast five days per week, a London Transport travel pass, half-day guided sightseeing tour of London, and a cultural program including three theater visits, three full-day excursions to Stratford, Stonehenge with Salisbury and Greenwich. Application deadline is June 19.

Search the English countryside for King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Read Shakespeare in the shadow of the stage at the renovated Globe Theater. Visit the Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London and relive the politics of Milton’s era.

The Paris program runs from April 23 to June 15, 2007. Students will live at the FIAP student residence and will study art, English and French. Each student will receive a Paris transit pass (Carte Orange), museum and monument entrances, guided day excursions to Chartres and Versailles, a three-day, two-night guided excursion to Normandy/Brittany including hotel, boat tour of Paris, and a cultural program including an evening ballet, concert or opera performance. Application deadline is Nov. 21.

Within Paris is one of the richest collections of art in the world. Paris and the Ile de France also possess some of the most revered architectural structures: Notre Dame Cathedral, Sainte Chapel, Palace of Versailles and the Louvre.

Students must be 18 or older to take part in the programs and have a GPA 2.5 or higher. Early application is encouraged as many programs fill before fall quarter enrollment. Financial aid and scholarships are available. For more information contact Melonie Guttry, international education program coordinator at (530) 541-4660, ext. 370 or www.ltcc.edu.
