Prizes and scholarships presented to staff at Beaches Boscobel annual awards

Beaches Boscobel Resort & Golf Club presented four million dollars in prizes and scholarships at the recent 2005-2006 Annual Team Members Awards ceremony.

Room attendant Audie Johnson, technician Andre Smith, and landscaping attendant Marlon Bish each received full scholarships to Hocking College in the USA for two years. A fourth scholarship will also be offered to the University of Maryland for a four-year degree in Hotel Management which will cover tuition, books and accommodations. The recipient will be announced at a later date.

The fourth annual staging of the awards saw tennis pro, Gary Harrison walking away with the top award for Team Member of the Year. For his hard work, Gary received US$500 cash courtesy of Guardian Life, a flat screen television set, courtesy of Appliance Traders Limited, COURTS vouchers valued at $30,000, a gift basket from Gas Pro (Shell), two airline tickets courtesy of Air Jamaica, and one week’s special leave with pay and one week at Sandals Grande St Lucia.

Gregory Gyles, watersports attendant, and Carlyle Nunes from the bar were the award’s other stars, each receiving multiple awards. Gyles received three awards for Customer Service Star, and guest-selected Team Member of the Year and Runner-Up Team Member of the Year. Carlyle Nunes walked away with the Honesty Award and was runner-up for Most Improved Team Member of the Year.

General Manager Jeff McKitty, of Beaches Boscobel, in making the scholarship announcement, also indicated the future plans of the resort. These he said included “a new state-of-the art water park with oversized water slides and a pizza restaurant which would make up to six hundred pizzas a day”.

“Guest satisfaction is paramount, therefore adding innovative products and incentives for guests are important components in ensuring that the resort maintains its title as the number one family resort in the world,” said McKitty.

Other top winners at the awards included training & development manager Dorothea Gordon, who was named Manager of the Year, and public relations manager Denise Treasure, who was named Runner-up manager of the year. Reggie Anderson, rooms supervisor, walked away with the supervisor of the year award.
