The Public Service Commission has awarded 39 scholars with its Scholarship Award.

Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean handed out the scholarships at the Istana on Saturday.

The scholars received the financial awards to help them pursue their studies in a range of subjects overseas and in Singapore.

The students sang a song to thank their parents for their support, and the lyrics reflected some students feelings about leaving home.

The students performed a play about social harmony.

Many of them will be going to universities in the US, UK and even France to pursue courses ranging from aeronautical engineering to medicine.

The PSC oversees five Scholarship Awards which are designed to attract and nurture talent for the Singapore Civil Service. - CNA/ch
