Scholarships available for seminar on journalism and elections

In the hopes stimulating a discussion on the role of journalism in politics and the electoral process, a seminar in Ecuador is scheduled to take place September 13 to 15. The deadline for scholarships is September 4.

The seminar will take place in Quito, and is organized by the advocacy group Corporación Participación Ciudadana. The event will include a workshop on September 14 for political journalists and editors.

The registration cost for the workshop is US$150, which includes course materials, a certificate and refreshments. Organizers are offering two scholarships covering the course cost for journalists from other countries; five scholarships for Ecuadorean journalists will cover course costs, transportation and lodging.

The seminar will also include several roundtable discussions open to the public on topics such as ethics during elections, and the relationship between journalists and their audience.

The Latin American School of Social Sciences FLACSO and the British Embassy in Quito are sponsoring the event. To register or for more information, contact buzon@ciudadaniainformada.com or visit http://www.ciudadaniainformada.com/seminario-periodismo/.
