NS Group founder gives $1M to Thomas More
Thomas More College has received $1 million for scholarships, thanks to a local businessman.
The Clifford R. Borland Family Fund made the donation to establish an endowed presidential scholarship program, the college said in a news release.
Clifford Borland is chairman emeritus of NS Group (NYSE: NSS - News), the Newport-based steel maker that he founded and headed for 24 years. He also served for nine years as a trustee for Thomas More, and is currently a member of the college’s Foundation Board.
“This investment from Mr. Borland helps the college immensely because it helps to bridge the gap between the ever-increasing cost of a college education and the limited tuition dollars most young men and women can reasonably afford to pursue their goal of a college degree,” said Sister Margaret Stallmeyer, president of the college.
Thomas More College, in Crestview Hills, is a private, Catholic, liberal arts college affiliated with the Diocese of Covington.
