CPP Athletics Receives $112,000 Grant

POMONA — Cal Poly Pomona Intercollegiate Athletics has been one of seven programs to be awarded a matching grant from the NCAA Division II Strategic Alliance to help fund a full-time professional administrative position.

The Strategic Alliance Matching Grant provides funding for Division II institutions and conference offices to enhance diversity and inclusion through full-time professional administrative positions in athletics administration. Selected institutions and conference offices receive grant funding for three years with diminishing contributions by the NCAA. The NCAA will fund 75 percent of the position during the first year, 50 percent through the second year and 25 percent during the third year. Participating institutions or conference offices are required to maintain the position for a minimum of two years after grant funds are exhausted, preferably incorporating the position into their ongoing operations.

The total amount of the grant over three years is $112,000 for Cal Poly Pomona.

“Cal Poly Pomona Intercollegiate Athletics is extremely honored to be one of seven recipients nationally to receive a NCAA Strategic Alliance Matching Grant,” Cal Poly Pomona Director of Athletics Brian Swanson said. “There were many outstanding proposals and this award will enhance our continuing administrative efforts in providing the best student-athlete experience possible.”

Cal Poly Pomona, Assumption College, the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference, Colorado State University at Pueblo, Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, Queens College and Sonoma State were the recipients.

“Considering the caliber of the proposals received, this award stands as a significant honor,” according to Kim Ford, the associate director of diversity and inclusion for the NCAA.

Division II is a dynamic and engaging group of colleges, institutions and conferences that have made it a top priority to enhance ethnic and gender representation in all facets of Division II athletics administration.
