Earlville pilot-in-training receives scholarship to Air Academy at Norwich Airport Days

Elizabeth Lewis of Earlville, a Pilot -in Training and a student at Sherburne-Earlville Central School was given a scholarship to attend the Experiment Aircraft Association’s 2007 Advanced Air Academy to be held this summer at EAA Headquarters in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Elizabeth was sponsored by the local Chapter 1204 of the EAA located at Lt. Warren Eaton Airport in Norwich.

The scholarship for $1000 was presented by Robert Benton of the Benton Foundation of New York. The scholarship is in memoriam of Roxanne Benton, a woman pioneer in Aviation. Benton states that Elizabeth Lewis was chosen because “of her interest in and dedication to Aviation and Aerospace Sciences and that she emulates the drive and determination of Roxanne Benton”.

The Air Academy will provide opportunities for Lewis to meet and work with aviation professionals while living and learning the arts, sciences, and lore of aviation in both classroom and workshop settings. Activities will include flight experience, workshops, and classroom study that are designed to increase skills and instill a pride of craftsmanship. More importantly, it will help to develop her leadership potential and broaden her understanding of both aviation and herself.

Elizabeth has soloed and as soon as she reached the appropriate age will test for her Private Pilot rating. Her Certified Flight Instructor is Michael Posson.
