Scholarship fund honors Bagwell
Classmates of Charlie Bagwell, a 1997 Rosman High School graduate who died in an Army helicopter crash in Afghanistan on May 30, have started a scholarship fund in the soldier’s memory.
Contributions to the SSG Charlie Bagwell Memorial Scholarship Fund are tax deductible and will initially be used to pay for the college education of Bagwell’s young son, Preston. Organizers also plan to donate funds to future scholarships for other deserving students.
“Charlie was a true friend to all who knew him and a hero to all those he fought to protect,” said classmate and scholarship treasurer Trish Cheek. “It is our hope that we may be able to pass along our joy in the memories Charlie left us through scholarships to well-deserving students as they pursue their academic endeavors.”
This weekend, many of Bagwell’s classmates will be in Transylvania County for their 10-year class reunion. Lapel pins and American flags will be sold at the Rosman-Brevard home football game as the initial fundraising event.
