LFCC Education Foundation offers Hockman Scholarship
The Carroll S. and Velma M. Hockman Endowed Scholarship has been added to the Lord Fairfax Community College Educational Foundation Inc.’s list of financial assistance available for qualified students at the school.
The scholarship was established by the Hockmans as part of their estate, after Mrs. Hockman died last December.
She was the first member of her family to graduate from college, enabling her to work as a nurse at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital and Winchester Medical Center.
The Hockmans resided in Harrisonburg and had five children, 12 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren.
The scholarship will be awarded annually to full- and/or part-time LFCC students who live in the college’s service region. It may be applied toward tuition, fees, and/or books and will be divided equally between the fall and spring semesters.
Satisfactory academic progress (a minimum grade-point average of 2.0) must be maintained in order for the recipient to receive the award for the spring semester.
In addition to the Hockman scholarship, the foundation has many other scholarship funds for full- and part-time students.
Current or prospective LFCC students interested in applying for one of the LFCC scholarships can obtain additional information on LFCC’s Web site at www.lfcc.edu/scholarships.
Individuals interested in donating to these or other scholarship funds may make a check payable to “LFCC Educational Foundation Inc.” Write the name of the fund that will be receiving the contribution on the memo line and mail the check to the LFCC Educational Foundation Inc., 173 Skirmisher Lane, Middletown, Va. 22645-1745.
The Lord Fairfax Community College Educational Foundation Inc. is an independent, not-for-profit entity dedicated to assisting the college in meeting its current and future needs.
