UH sets up business scholarship
A $50,000 endowed scholarship has been created at the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s Shidler College of Business by local businessman and alumnus Leonard Kamp.
A $25,000 donation was matched with funds from real estate entrepreneur Jay Shidler’s $25 million gift to the business college.
The fund will be used to provide business scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students. Students who have served in the U.S. Peace Corps will be given preference.
“Our alumni play a significant role in our continued success by providing leadership and resources to help us reach the next level,” said Dean V. Vance Roley in a statement. “Lenny has been one of those loyal supporters that understands our needs and continues to give generously of his time as well as financially.”
Kamp earned his executive MBA and undergraduate civil engineering degree from UH Manoa.
He came to Hawaii as part of a training program with the U.S. Peace Corps. Kamp worked in management for Hawaiian Dredging Construction Co. before buying contracting company Haas Insulation Inc. in 1985. He later sold the company and retired in 1995.
