Education Fund Grows

Gov. Matt Blunt’s funding plan for Missouri colleges and universities, technology centers and experiment stations remains on track. The initiative provides more than $2.1 million to benefit students around the state, promote technology and innovation, and help secure Missouri’s role as a higher education leader. The $2,174,009 payment distribution is the eighth of the $335 million total that Gov. Blunt secured for Missouri students and classrooms through his Lewis and Clark Discovery Initiative.

“We need to invest in better classrooms at our colleges and universities to ensure that our students have the tools and skills to compete for jobs in our global economy,” Gov. Blunt says.

The following university experiment stations and agriculture programs received funding:
University of Missouri Greenley Learning and Discovery Park, $11,256
University of Missouri Southwest Education and Outreach Center, $36,802
University of Missouri Horticultural and Agroforestery Research Center, $14,615
University of Missouri Wurdack Farm, $8,910
Northwest Missouri State University Plant Biologics Center, $564,271

Gov. Blunt’s landmark Lewis and Clark Discovery Initiative is a partnership between the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority and the state. The partnership, authorized through legislation and supported by lawmakers, reinvests a state asset to generate $335 million to strengthen Missouri’s colleges and universities for students. The Department of Higher Education and the Office of Administration are working with universities and colleges to process the funding.
