Fisher Cats foundation honors scholar-athlete scholarship winners
Manchester, NH-The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, are proud to announce this year’s recipients of the Fisher Cats Foundation Scholar-Athlete Scholarships. These award winners were honored tonight in the Fisher Cats Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award Ceremony prior to the 7:05pm game between the Fisher Cats and the Akron Aeros at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
The Fisher Cats Foundation awarded $2,500 to each student for a grand total of $25,000. The monies for these scholarships were raised through Centrix Bank 50-50 raffles at Fisher Cats’ games and the 3rd Annual Granite State Baseball Dinner in January.
These scholarships were made possible by the Fisher Cats Foundation, a statewide charitable organization dedicated to bettering the lives of New Hampshire’s youth by supporting Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) and providing scholarships to college-bound New Hampshire high school seniors. The Foundation’s board is composed of Jim Desmarais, Lewis Feldstein, Nancy Formella, Sylvia McBeth, Tom Monahan, Stella Scamman, Stephen Singer and Tom Rath, a group of leading New Hampshire citizens who make a positive difference in the lives of Granite State residents each and every day.
“With so many worthy high school seniors applying for these scholarships, it was again a very difficult decision to select the most outstanding as award recipients,” said Fisher Cats owner and chairman of the Fisher Cats Foundation Board Art Solomon. “With over 180 applicants, we are pleased to announce that the winners of this year’s prestigious awards are Alyson Downing, Kristie Dukelow, Benjamin Hart, Marissa Hebert, David LeBlanc, Dylan Summers, Kenneth Venere, Eliza Webber and Alyssa Wheeler,” Solomon said.
*Alyson Downing (Rumney/Plymouth Regional High School) is headed to Middlebury College and is undecided on a major.
*Kristie Dukelow (Brookline/Hollis/Brookline High School) is planning to major in diagnostic ultrasonography at Mount Aloysius College.
*Benjamin Hart (Porstmouth/Portsmouth High School) will be majoring in economics at the University of Vermont.
*Marissa Hebert (Milan/Berlin High School) will be attending Drexel University with a focus in studying architecture.
*David LeBlanc (Nashua/Nashua North High School) is going to the University of New Hampshire and majoring in liberal arts.
*Dylan Summers (Wolfeboro/Kingswood Regional High School) is interested in environmental science and will be going to Dartmouth College.
*Kenneth Venere (Manchester/Manchester West High School) will be majoring in physical therapy at Northeastern University.
*Eliza Webber (Stoddard/Keene High School) plans to attend Brown University and major in environmental science.
*Alyssa Wheeler (Windham/Salem High School) will be attending Cornell University and majoring in materials science engineering.
Casey Dropkin (Waterville Valley/Plymouth Regional High School) was also honored before the game as the recipient of the Swymer Family Scholarship for $2,500 - an award offered to a student who has overcome a significant barrier and gone on to college. Dropkin is looking forward to attending Bates College and studying chemistry and Spanish.
The Fisher Cats will host the Akron Aeros tomorrow night at 7:05pm in the finale of their three-game series at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Thursday is Law Enforcement Night, and fans will have the opportunity to partake in a charitable auction to bid on specially-designed uniforms the Fisher Cats are wearing to commemorate the event.
